BIG RAPIDS — Only a few tickets remain for an evening of fun under the stars while helping local schools.

The St. Mary-St. Paul Annual Gala is set to begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, at the Parish Center, located at 927 Marion Ave., Big Rapids. While doors open at 6 p.m., dinner is set for 7 p.m. The evening will continue until midnight.

“The gala is a unique dining and auction experience,” said Tyler Schuberg, gala board member.

Schuberg said this is the 21st year of the event, which was started to create funds for the Parish Center. The funds provide many opportunities for the students of St. Mary Catholic School, as well as for those who attend St. Mary-St. Paul Catholic Community. Funds raised for this event are put toward the operating costs of the Parish Center, which is used for church functions and as a facility for St. Mary Catholic School students.

Each year, gala-goers can find some familiar elements, such as games, raffles and silent and live auctions. However, the center is decorated a little differently each year to fit with the current theme. This year’s theme, “Evening Under the Stars,” pays homage to two community members who were instrumental in the gala’s success, Bob Horan and Karl DePew.

“As a church family, we are so blessed to have had these individuals donate their time, talents and dollars to our church community,” Schuberg said.
