Big Rapids boys golf wins conference tourney

STANTON — The No. 2 ranked Big Rapids boys golf team won their first CSAA tournament Tuesday at Central Montcalm by firing a season-low score of 312.

The Cardinals won by 55 strokes over Fremont (367).  Chippewa Hills shot a 375 and Reed City 377.

The Cardinals were led by Pierce Morrissey who fired a 70 and Owen Seay’s score of 78.   Seniors Ben Fath and Fletcher Bolda rounded off the Cardinal scoring with 81 and 83.

Freshman Brett Lilienthal shot a season-low 91 and Elliot Seay shot 92.

“We were happy with our 312 today,” head coach Mark Posey said.  “Everyone hit some good shots and found some things they need to work on over the next few days.”

Like the rest of the spring sports, the weather has made the season difficult.

“It hasn’t been easy to practice because of the recent weather,” Posey said. “I especially saw that our touch shots around the greens needed to be better but considering the lack of outdoor practice we have had, I’ll take it.”

Big Rapids baseball game suspended

BIG RAPIDS — Leading Fremont 8-2 in the bottom of the fifth, the Big Rapids baseball team decided to suspend play due to inclement weather Tuesday at Big Rapids High.

The game is scheduled to resume on May 4.
