BIG RAPIDS — Big Rapids’ solid boys golf season continues.

Big Rapids was at the Chippewa Hills invitational at The Pines of Lake Isabella on Friday and took first at 345.

Chippewa Hills was second with a 356.

Big Rapids was led by Pierce Morrissey with a 77 for medalist honors followed by Fletcher Bolda 81, Dawson Currie 91, Trevor Woodard 96, Peter Ruttan 97 and River Spedowski 104.

Bolda shot a 69 at Spring Valley Golf Course in Reed City earlier this week for medalist honors in a Central State Activities Association Gold Division meet.

Bolda, Big Rapids’ hockey goalie the past four seasons, is planning on pursuing a junior hockey career. But right now, he’s focusing on a championship season for the Cards.

The Cardinals play in the Tullymore Invitational on Monday, a CSAA jamboree at the Royal Golf Course on May 16 and the Katke Classic at Ferris on May 18-19.

From last year “we lost one senior, Tate Morrissey, but we’ve had a couple of guys step up over the summer to fill those roles.”

Bolda said he’s improved “a lot. I’m playing much better golf and more consistent golf. That’s going to help us if we want to make some noise down the stretch.”

Bolda acknowledged that a cold spring, which made golf a tough sport in March and April, forced his team to play catch up.

“For us, we approached it as course management,” he said. “We talked a lot about getting around the golf course which has helped up since we’ve been getting outside.”

Bolda is averaging a 78 for 18 holes.

On playing junior hockey, “I haven’t decided where yet, but I have some offers,” he said.
