The third annual Osceola County Baby Shower was spearheaded by Mid Michigan Community Action Agency, Central Michigan District Health Department and Meceola Children’s Council.

“We are featuring two educational topics. We will give presentations on healthy mom and healthy baby and demonstrate baby wearing,” said event organizer Shawna Roskoski of Mid Michigan Community Action Agency. “There are five agencies providing child development information and community resources to mothers.”

With a 10-pound doll, Joanne Pittman of Mid Michigan Community Action Agency demonstrated the art of baby wearing, showing young mothers how to create wraps out of 5-yards of fabric.

“Baby wearing is good for so many reasons. It helps free your hands and you can still have your baby close to you,” she explained. “There also are other benefits, such as stabilizing your baby’s heart rate and regulating their breathing and temperature. They can hear your heart beat.”
