EVART – The spring season ended Evart in a 3-2 loss to Farwell in the Division 4 baseball district.

But Wildcat coach Josh Johnson had what will be his 2019 spring baseball team on the diamond Tuesday at home to start the summer season.

The Wildcats swept Montabella twice on mercy rules. The final scores were not available.

“I don’t know if anyone really hit the ball that well,” Johnson said. “There was some sloppy play on Montabella’s part. It was a good chance to get out and play a little bit.”

Troy Lodholtz and Carter McLachlan pitched the first game.

“I was trying to give guys some work,” Johnson said.

Ty Sochocki and Justin O’Dell pitched the second game.

Johnson had 14 players at Tuesday’s game.

“That’s pretty good,” he said. “We have a few other things going on.”

Evart is playing in an area Colt League with games on Tuesday and Thursday. A game with Beal City was originally scheduled for Thursday but was canceled since the Aggies are playing in the MHSAA state semifinal.

Next week, Evart is playing on Tuesday and Thursday. Three of the next four Evart games are home. Opponents and specific dates will be announced later.

Evart is also set to play at Reed City on June 24 at 4 p.m.
