Habitat for Humanity to host volunteer orientation

BIG RAPIDS — The Mecosta County Habitat for Humanity will host an Orientation Day for volunteers for the organization’s upcoming home build at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, at the new home build site on the corner of Woodward Avenue and Bailey Drive.

At the orientation, volunteers will meet the contractor for the project and will be presented with a safety course relating to the work they will be doing on the build. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to meet the future homeowners, Jennifer Deater and her son, Zac.

Lisa Barnum, the director of community outreach for the Mecosta County Habitat for Humanity, said volunteers do not need to have any prior experience as training will be offered on-site. She added knowledge is welcomed and anyone with prior construction experience is encouraged to volunteer.

People who want to help the organization in other ways can also register to volunteer at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Volunteers perform duties such as cashier, sorting items, testing electronics brought to the store and performing pick-ups.
