Five Pine River girls earn all-league honors

Pine River’s KayLee Goodman earned all-league honors.

LEROY — Pine River’s softball team had five girls receive all-Highland Conference awards this season.

Bekah Dean, KayLee Goodman, Taylor Hill and Maddie Marks were on the first team while Emma Whitley earned honorable honors.

Hill is a junior and Whitley is a freshman. The others are seniors.

Dean played in 28 games and had a batting average of .419, 32 singles, six doubles, one triple and 18 RBIs and a fielding percentage of .917.

“Her hitting and her great arm behind the plate,” are strengths, coach Mike Nelson said.

Goodman played 28 games and had a batting average of .370 and had 30 singles, three doubles, one triple and three home runs and 19 RBIs, and scored 42 times. She played shortstop and had a fielding percentage of .793.

“Her range in the field and speed on the bases,” are strengths,” Nelson said.

Hill played in 28 games, had a batting average of 310, and had 17 singles, eight doubles, one triple and scored 26 times. She had a fielding percentage of .985 and only had three errors at first base.

Marks played 24 games and had a batting average of .294 and had 23 singles, one double, one triple and 14 RBIs with a .926 fielding percentage in center field with only two errors.

“Her speed and ability to run down fly balls in center field,” were strengths Nelson said.

Whitley played in 24 games and had a batting average of .328 with 13 singles, three doubles, two triples, one home run and 17 RBIs. Her fielding percentage at second base was .913.

“Her work ethics were her positive attitude and always wanting to get better,” Nelson said.
