REMUS — Chippewa Hills’ softball team finished third in the Central State Activities Association’s Gold Division this season and had four players earn all-conference honors.

Central Montcalm won the league while Reed City was second.

Honorees for the Warriors were Kurstyn Fate, Izzy Guitierrez. Sydney Wright on first team and Makenna Longtin on the honorable mention list.

Fate, a junior third baseman, decreased her errors from 25 last year to nine this season.

“She increased her batting average from .286 last year to .363 this year,” Chippewa Hills coach DJ Newman said.

Gutierrez, a junior third baseman, was also all-district, and led the team in batting average and fielding percentage.

“This year she increased her average from .262 to .410 overall,” she said. “She only made three errors at first base. She was voted captain by her peers and dual sported with track and softball.

Wright, a junior second baseman, is also all-district player.

“She was known for her bat and her defensive range and ability,” Newman said. “She hit .385 while leading the team in on-base percentage and slugging.”

Longtin, a senior center fielder, was also all-district, leadoff hitter who led the team with 19 stolen bases in 20 attempts.  “She was known for defense as well,” Newman said. “She had three double plays this year. She has signed to continue her career at Northwood University.”
