POLICE BLOTTER: Man tries to dry shorts in parking lot

BIG RAPIDS — Big Rapids Department of Public Safety officers responded to the following calls Tuesday and Wednesday. All calls might not be reported.


• Police responded to a suspicious situation complaint at 8:05 a.m. on the 500 block of Willow Avenue. A resident reported a suspicious white Dodge car had parked in front of her home around 4 a.m. Motion lights on the house were activated and she became concerned. The officer checked the interior of her garage, which is attached to her home. Police advised her to report any further suspicious activity right away.

• Officers performed an area check on the 600 block of Oak Street. A manager reported an employee found a possibly naked man in a vehicle. The 47-year-old man was in a blue Chrysler Sebring with the hood up in the parking lot. The man said he had spilled water on his shorts and had tried to dry them by hanging on them on the door. He said he was covered up with a towel. The man was dressed when officers arrived and said he was waiting for his cousin who was in the building.

• Police were dispatched to a suspicious situation on the 700 block of Fuller Avenue.

• Officers responded to a domestic assault complaint at 7:43 p.m. on the 1700 block of South State Street. The caller, a 23-year-old woman, advised she was assaulted by her 43-year-old boyfriend. The female was highly intoxicated. The male denied any assault and said the woman was upset with him for taking money back he had previously given to her. There were no signs of assault and the two separated for the night.

• Officers responded to a fireworks complaint on the 100 block of Gilbertson Avenue.


• Police assisted a citizen at 4:23 a.m. on the 600 block of South State Street.
