Isabella Bank robbed; police ID suspect

BIG RAPIDS TWP. — Local law enforcement officials are looking for the man suspected of robbing a bank early Thursday afternoon in Big Rapids Township.

According to the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office, detectives are investigating the 12:48 p.m. robbery of Isabella Bank, located on Perry Avenue, which they have identified Nicholas Max Nelson, 23, of Newaygo, as the suspect.

They believe Nelson has fled the Big Rapids area to an unknown location.

According to Detective Sgt. Drew Nielsen, the Nelson demanded money from the bank staff.

He then fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of money in a dark blue, four-door vehicle, possibly a Volkswagen.

Police released a surveillance photo of Nelson.
