Teenage driver injured in early morning accident

AUSTIN TWP. — A teenage driver sustained minor injuries in an accident early Tuesday morning.

According to the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at 2:05 a.m. to a one-vehicle personal injury accident at the intersection of 11 Mile Road and 120th Avenue in Austin Township.

Upon investigation, deputies found the driver, a 17-year-old Big Rapids girl, was traveling at a high rate of speed when she swerved to miss a deer. She then drove off the roadway on the left and hit several trees. Receiving very minor injuries, the girl was released from the scene.

Deputies were assisted by Morton Township Fire and and Rescue and Mecosta County EMS.
