Shoots continue at Rod & Gun Club

MECOSTA — Saturday activities continue for another two full months at the Mecosta County Rod & Gun Club.

The final Saturday for morning and early afternoon shooting competition goes until Oct. 27, ending about three weeks prior to the start of deer season.

Club president Randy Rice said the shoots have been drawing good numbers. Trap shoots are 10 a.m. on Saturday, followed by skeet shoots at 1 p.m.

“It’s been a lot better,” Rice said. “The spring started out really poor (because of poor weather).”

It’s been warm throughout the summer but on Saturday (Aug. 25), Rice indicated higher temperatures weren’t having a major input.

“There were quite a few in the morning shooting trap,” he said. “This afternoon there was a skimpy crowd but still a crowd. Usually in the afternoon, we get a little more.”

Also coming up at the club will be a trapping seminar from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
