BIG RAPIDS — Dan Hardesty was expected to be among Big Rapids top boys cross country runners this season, and so far, it’s proven to be the case. He had three races so far.

He was 13th in 20:08.4 in the Hesperia Baker Woods Invitational and was fifth with a senior record of 17:58.6 in the Central State Activities Association Gold Division race at Central Montcalm.

On Saturday, Hardesty placed third in 18:11.8 at the Ferris State Ray Helsing Invitational at Katke Golf Course. Logan Williams was Big Rapids’ top runners.

“It went pretty well,” Hardesty said. “The course was good, (the weather) was a little too warm but nothing to complain about.”

His personal record was set last season when he clocked a 16:46.8 at the Northern Michigan Cross Country Championships late in the season.

“I want to go in the low 16 or sub 16s,” Hardesty said. “We try to peak by the regional. I think I’m pretty consistent through the race”

Hardesty, a senior, and his teammates will be running at the Michigan State Invitational on Friday.

“I think we have a solid team that can do well together,” Hardesty said. “We’re good. We have some good seniors and some good younger guys coming out who can help.”
