BIG RAPIDS — Upcoming weather may not be the best for golfers, but Lauren Posey and her Big Rapids teammates are hoping to play at their best.

The Cardinals are at regionals today in the Muskegon area and hope to be performing at the state finals next weekend.

Posey, whose dad Mark is the Cardinals’ coach, is a sophomoroe and has been among the top players on the team.

“I played quite a bit in 2017 and it was good to get a lot of experience,” Posey said. “I’ve improved a lot this year. My long game has gotten better. My short game has gotten better.”

Posey her teammates had to endure two wet days at the Katke Golf Classic on Friday and Saturday. But getting the experience in adverse weather may pay off in upcoming meets, Posey indicated.

Her best 18-hole score has been 82.

“Definitely my short game has helped me out a lot,” Posey said. “I need to be consistent throughout my game.”

As a team, “I think we’ve improved a lot collectively,” Posey said. “My hopes are to win regionals and do the best we can at state.’

Posey tried to play as much golf as she can, especially during the summer.
