BIG RAPIDS — Lewis Macdonald’s junior season has been a good one for the Big Rapids boys soccer team.

The Cardinals play Manistee on Wednesday in district soccer action.

This marks Macdonald’s first varsity soccer season.

“I played soccer from first grade to eighth grade,” Macdonald said. “I started back up again, I loved it, especially from watching the World Cup. It took a little time to get back into getting my touches.”

Macdonald plays center-mid. He’s had some goals and assists.

“I use my body to get into the best positioning,” he said.

He had a goal against Tri County to put Big Rapids up 2-1. The game wound up in a tie.

“I’ve improved on everything, like positioning, striking,” Macdonald said. “The team is doing pretty well. We had a nice game against Manistee when we won 4-1 (during the regular season). That was a nice win.”

“Our ability to keep on pushing has been a team strength,” Macdonald said.

The key for the Cardinals to keep playing will be get into the open space and find the open man,” he said.

When the soccer season ends, Macdonald will put on his ice skates to start the high school hockey campaign.
