Spectrum Health hosting two blood drives

MECOSTA, OSCEOLA COUNTIES — Blood donors will have two opportunities to donate in the coming weeks.

Community members are invited to the blood drive set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital. The blood drive will be in the classroom at the hospital, located at 605 Oak St.

“Blood donations are so vital and none of us knows when someone we care about will need blood,” said Sarah Neubecker, marketing and volunteer services manager for the hospital. “We recently had an emergency with a patient who needed the majority of her blood supply replaced before the crisis was resolved. It was an extraordinary performance by our medical team. But it’s also true that the generosity of previous blood donors definitely saved her life.”

Appointments are preferred and encouraged, but not required. Those without appointments will be invited to choose the unfilled appointment time most convenient for them. Call Michigan Blood at 866-MIBLOOD (642-5663) or register online at versiti.org/michigan.

Another blood drive is set from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital.

Each blood donation can save up to three lives. The entire donation process takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes and includes registration, a brief health screening, blood collection and time for post-donation refreshments.

Additional information on donating lifesaving blood is also available at miblood.org.
