MORLEY — Mikayla Moore recently ended a solid volleyball career at Morley Stanwood and is ready to start one on the collegiate level.

Moore signed a letter of intent on Wednesday to play volleyball at Muskegon Community College.

Moore was in her third season as the starting setter for the Mohawks. She earned all-conference and all-region in both her junior and senior seasons.

“She has a great feel for the court and has worked very hard over the years to become one of the strongest setters in the region,” Kozuch said. “She will leave a huge hole for the team to fill next fall. She ended with 641 assists, 51 aces, 227 digs, and 66 kills, which is pretty high for a setter.”

Moore said she started playing club volleyball five years ago and became familiar with MCC head coach Rick Rykse. She decided a couple of weeks ago and MCC was the only program she considered. She expects to be used as a setter or defensive specialist.

“Since I started playing the sport, I always wanted to play college,” Moore said. “When I got the offer to play, I took it. I have to stay on top of my skills and work out. I’ll play club volleyball this winter and spring.”

Rykse has been at MCC nine years.

“Mikayla plays for our club program so I’ve watched her over the last few years,” Rykse said. “We started talking about college and she didn’t really have any plans. I knew I needed another setter. I brought her in for a practice. The other players like her and she liked them. We bring in a lot of good kids. We’re a nationally ranked program. I like how Mikayla plays and her attitude and leadership. It should be a nice fit for our program.”
