REED CITY — Ten students crowded the counters of the Trinity Lutheran School’s kitchen on Thursday in preparation of their weekend fundraiser.

Members of the seventh- and eighth-grade classes baked cookies Thursday morning, which will be up for grabs during their cookie walk, set for 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Dec. 8, at the church and school, 19778 U.S. 10, Reed City.

Ryan Allen carefully measures flour while following a recipe for peanut butter cookies. The sale of these cookies and hundreds more will go toward funding the seventh- and eighth-grade trip to Chicago in the spring.

“The students have baked cookies at home, they are baking some here and members of the congregation have donated cookies,” said Jim Chatel, one of the seventh- and eighth-grade teachers. “Folks can come in and fill tins with assorted cookies.”

Cookie walk attendees will be able to browse through dozens of different kinds of cookies, including the peanut butter and chocolate and peanut butter chip cookies students made Thursday, and select their desired sweets. Participants will then pay by the pound for their cookies.

Chatel noted this is the first year Trinity has hosted a cookie walk since 2011. The event is back this year after community members expressed interest in this fundraiser, which supports the seventh- and eighth-grade class trip in the spring. This year, the proceeds could help students fund their trip to Chicago.

“It’s fun because a lot of people are involved,” Chatel said. “It’s a good fundraiser. All the students work together and all the families work together.”
