Beistle leads Big Rapids girls

BIG RAPIDS — Big Rapids girls basketball team will go for a 2-0 start when the Cardinals play tonight at Lakeview.

But throughout the season, the Cardinals will be relying on veteran players like Celia Beistle, who is among the seniors on the Big Rapids squad who will give the team some key experience.

Beistle’s first varsity season was last year and she saw action from off the bench.

“It went pretty good,” she said.

Beistle provided the Cards with leadership in various situations and hopes to do it again this year.

She had 10 points and 10 rebounds in last week’s 42-30 win over Manistee to open the season.

“I thought Celia played a great second half,” Big Rapids coach Jessica Haist said. “She did what we need her to do which is rebound and get putbacks.”

Beistle feels comfortable shooting from various spots on the floor.

“I went to a lot of stuff during the summer,” Beistle said.

She invested a lot of time in getting ready for 2018-19.

“We do a lot of conditioning and we do a lot of drills to get us ready for the season,” Beistle said.

She’s optimistic with her team’s outlook.

“We’re pretty quick and can beat people up and down the floor,” Beistle said.
