REMUS — Chippewa Hills took first overall at Grandville in Saturday wrestling action. Grandville took second place. Individual Warrior champions: 285, Colby Roosa; 215, Chayton Wiggins; 112, Daylin Wittig.

Second-place finishers: 189, Gabe Petoskey.  Third-place finishers: 171, Trenten Wiggins; 145, Logan Hansen; 140, Bray Haynes; 135, Carson Hayes; 125, Ozzy Manito.  Fourth-place finishers: 152, Justin Bonner; 119, Gavin Miller.

“It was a great job of team wrestling,” Chippewa Hills coach Kevin Edwards said.

 

Reed City sixth

Reed City placed sixth at the Kent City Kickoff Classic on Saturday. The team was 2-3 for the day with wins over Godwin Heights 60-18 and East Grand Rapids 60-24. Losses for the Coyotes were to Whitehall 45-33, Fremont 59-18 and Kent City 48-34. Individuals going 5-0 were Ryan Simmons, who also got his 100th career win at the 119-pound weight class, and Austin Fowler at 215. Wrestlers going 4-1 were Anakin Andrus (112) and Teddy Cross (189). Wrestlers with three wins were Brandon Hall (125) and Mason Johnson (112).

Getting two wins each were Andrew Clementshaw (103), Aaron Boucher (135), Mark White (152) and Cassie Enos (189). With one win each were James Duncan (145) Hunter Brahman (160) and Kellen Haney (171). Reed City’s overall record is 2-5.

The Coyotes are at Grant on Wednesday with Fremont and Grant.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Newaygo 66, Chippewa Hills 45

Chippewa Hills (0-2, 0-1) lost its first Central State Activities Association Gold Division game of the season on Friday. Jorja Ray had 19 points and Izzy Gutierrez had eight points.

The Warriors are home on Friday with Tri County.
