BIG RAPIDS — Ferris State University football fans can show their Bulldog pride by lining the streets to welcome the team home on Sunday.

After competing in the Division II National Championship in Texas, the busload of Bulldogs is scheduled to roll into Big Rapids between 3:15 and 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16. Fans are encouraged to bring their signage and banners and arrive by 3:15 p.m. at the R.L. Ewigleben Sports Complex, 210 Sports Drive.

After arriving at the west lot, fans can proceed through the complex and convene at East Circle Drive. With enough participation, fans should be able to line the drive and continue north down State Street, according to the Mecosta County Area Chamber of Commerce.

“When the basketball team won and came back to town, we had a nice gathering of people to welcome them. We hope to get everyone to the arena to have a big hoopla to welcome the football team home on Sunday,” said Jennifer Heinzman, chamber executive director. “I think it’s really important to show our support for players.”

Community members hoping to be part of the welcoming committee are encouraged to obey all traffic laws and refrain from standing in the lanes or impeding traffic in any way. Following the team’s arrival, there will be a brief reception and some words from coaches and players, according to the chamber.

“The community is really excited about this,” Heinzman said.
