BIG RAPIDS — The Ferris State University Student Veterans Association loaded up two pickup trucks full of basic necessities on Friday to donate to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans for the holiday season.

The donation drive was part of an annual series of endeavors to give back to those who need it most, said Kristin Wilcox, an FSU student and U.S. Coast Guard veteran who helped organize the effort.

Donations were accepted for several weeks through the veterans association office on campus, and the main office of the Canadian Lakes residential community.

Wilcox said she was surprised by the large amount of donations received, and grateful for the support.

“By helping the older generation of veterans, we help each other,” Wilcox said. “I am very, very appreciative of the Ferris community, the Canadian Lakes community and the Tullymore community, who stepped up to help veterans. It’ll be a merry Christmas for them.”
