EVART — Sam Bailey has been an instrumental part of young but improving Evart wrestling team and is hoping to enjoy a strong second half of the season.

Bailey is a freshman wrestling at 152 pounds and has a .500 record.

“My first one, I got a technical fall against a kid from Coleman,” he said.

Its his first year of wrestling. He was encouraged to come out by a friend, Cole Hopkins, an eighth grader wrestler in his junior high program. Bailey is delighted he got invited.

Bailey won his match in Evart’s 39-12 victory on Wednesday over Kingsley.

“Just being able to go the whole time,” is the biggest challenge of the sport, Bailey has observed. “I’ve done good in takedowns and can ride kids pretty good.”

Evart will be at the Alma Invitational today.

Before the season ends, Bailey hopes to have a winning record.

“I need to get more technical on my mounts and my moves,” he said.

Fortunes for the team have been improving although Bailey noted the Wildcats still void some classes.
