BIG RAPIDS — The Crossroads Charter Academy boys basketball team couldn’t have asked for a better start against Marion on Friday.

The Cougars ran off to a 14-0 start and went on to beat the Eagles 64-35 at home.

“We went out there and wanted to work on some things,” Castillo said. “You can say what you want about Marion, but they never quit. We put our other groups in and they were competitive with them. Our guys have to understand that just because you’re role players, you’re not out there just to have fun.”

The Eagles dressed just six players on Friday. Lack of depth put them at a disadvantage. Cougars coach Julian Castillo started each quarter with his starting five before subbing them out after the first few minutes. CCA led 39-16 at halftime and led by as many as 29 points.

“I was pleased with our defense,” Castillo said. “Our rotation needs to get better but that is something we can work on.”

Britton Angell led all scorers with 16 points and Jackson Wickes had 12 while Isaac Slomp and Ethan Davis had 10 and nine points, respectively.

Ryder Hall led Marion with 11 points.

The win moves CCA to 10-1 (8-1) on the season. The Cougars are at Mesick at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
