Morley Stanwood boys fall to Grant to lead area hoops roundup

BOYS BASKETBALL

Grant 71, Morley Stanwood 66

GRANT — Morley Stanwood’s 12-game win streak to start the season was snapped by the Tigers of Grant on Tuesday.

The Mohawks trailed 41-28 at the half but rallied to make it a close game late. Aiden McLaughlin led the team with 21 points and had five assists and Landon Elenbaas had 14 points, while Axel Woolworth added 11 points and Callan Dillree tallied 10 points, six assists, and seven rebounds.

Morley Stanwood (12-1) hosts Holton tonight.

Clare 44, Reed City 41

CLARE — The Coyotes lost a heartbreaker to the Pioneers on Tuesday.

Anthony Pelton led the team with 14 points and Payton Hansen added 12. The Coyotes (9-5, 6-3) host Tri County on Friday.

Montabella 53, Chippewa Hills 31

REMUS — Mitch Kuzma had eight points and Eli Elliot seven for Chippewa Hills in this nonleague loss on Tuesday.

The Warriors are home on Wednesday with Newaygo.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Grant 56, Morley Stanwood 46

GRANT — It was 30-27, Mohawks, at halftime in this Tuesday game. But the Tigers had a 29-16 scoring advantage in the final half.

Brooke Brauher had 17 points and nine rebounds for the Mohawks while Brenna Berry had 14 points and six rebounds. Kalee Ramsey had six points and four assists.

“It was the tale of two halves for us,” Morley Stanwood coach Rob Brauher said. “The first half they pressed us and we handled it very well. In the second half, they stopped pressing us and we struggled to score in the half-court. Defensively I would have liked to have done things differently. Rebounding was a struggle for us.”

The Mohawks are home on Wednesday against Holton.

Chippewa Hills 51, Montabella 32

BLANCHARD — Haley Mercer and Grace Issette had 12 points apiece while Jorja Ray added 11 for the Warriors in this nonleague win on Tuesday. It was 31-10 at halftime.

Chippewa Hills is home with Newaygo on Wednesday and with Grant on Friday.
