Osceola County commissioners accept veteran services grant

OSCEOLA COUNTY — During the Osceola County Board of Commissioners Committee of the Whole meeting on Tuesday, board members accepted a $10,000 incentive grant from the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency.

This grant money was made available through state-allocated funding and may be used to create an additional part-time position in the veterans services department.

Also during the meeting, commissioners approved:

• Claims of the county for approximately $70,670;

• Budget amendments;

• Appointing Mark Watkins as the emergency management director;

• An agreement with BioMedical Solutions, Inc. for preventative maintenance services;

• Appointing Rich Jacobs to the Osceola County Planning Commission;

• Allowing the sheriff to appoint the new jail administrator;

• Filling the jail administrator and undersheriff positions at step seven of the county pay scale; and

• An application and accepting a $5,000 grant from Cargill, a food services company, for a program to provide nutritional drink supplements to seniors through the Commission on Aging.
