EVART — Danny Witbeck is an Evart basketball sophomore who continues to make key shots and key plays in helping the Wildcats be competitive and notch important wins in the late stages of the season.

In two recent wins over Pine River and McBain Northern Michigan Christian, which has turned the Wildcats’ season around in a dramatic way, Witbeck has been hitting free throws and baskets at competitive times.

It’s his first varsity season.

“It’s been going well, actually,” Witbeck said, adding adjusting to the added pressure of varsity basketball has been a challenge. “I try to contribute to the team, whatever I can do.”

Scoring has been a Witbeck strength.

“You have to know when to (shoot) and when to pull it up and kick it out,” Witbeck said, adding on defense, “you have to keep your man from the basket. I’m working on pressure and not letting pressure get to me.”

In the win over Pine River, Witbeck showed his coolness under pressure by hitting clutch free throws in the late going.

“You always need to work hard in practice,” he said.
