BIG RAPIDS — The Ferris State men’s hockey team forced a 3-3 tie with Bemidji State Friday night at Ewigleben Ice Arena.

The Beavers got on the board first with an unassisted Tyler Kirkup goal to go up 1-0 in the first period. The Bulldogs answered back with shorthanded goal by Hunter Wendt (1:53) and Lucas Finner (5:36) fired in a goal of his own to put Ferris up 2-1 going into the third period.

The Beavers wouldn’t go away with Tyler Vold (2:48) and Alex Ierullo (6:09) goals to give the Beavers a 3-2 advantage.

Just when it seemed like Bemidji would get the win, Corey Mackin & Cooper Zech found Trevor Recktenwald for the game-tying goal with 10 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.

In 3-on-3 overtime, Bemidji’s Charlie Combs scores with less than ten seconds remaining to earn an extra WCHA league point for the Beavers.

Ferris goalie Justin Kapelmaster made 34 saves and the Bulldogs’ offense attempted 38 shots.

The Bulldogs (7-20-2, 4-15-1-1) host Bemidji State (13-12-4, 11-8-2-0) tonight at 7 p.m.
