POLICE BLOTTER: Man arrested for allegedly throwing space heater at woman

BIG RAPIDS — Big Rapids Department of Public Safety officers responded to the following calls Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All calls might not be reported.

Friday

• Police responded to the 1300 block of Catherine Street in response to a Facebook threats complaint.

• Officers responded to the 300 block of West Bridge Street and arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly throwing a space heater at a 20-year-old woman. The man is on circuit court probation.

• Police responded to the 600 block of South State Street in response to a disorderly conduct complaint. Police said two women threw over displays because a store employee would not sell them a cigar without identification. The incident is under investigation.

• Later in the day, police responded to the same location for a larceny complaint. The caller said the same people who allegedly threw over the displays returned and stole a cigarette roller. The roller was recovered outside the store, police said. Officers have not made contact with the suspects and the incident remains under investigation.

• After responding to a possible operating while intoxicated complaint. A 25-year-old female passenger in the vehicle was found to be in violation of her probation by drinking.

• Police responded to the 800 block of Country Way in response to a complaint of a female yelling at someone on the phone.

• Police responded to a civil complaint on the 200 block of Pemberton Avenue. A domestic dispute was in progress. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a man and a woman, who told officers they were having an argument. The man agreed to leave.

• Officers responded to a suspicious situation on the 100 block of Maple Street. A 21-year-old man told police he thought he was at Venlo Drive, at a friend’s house, but his friends actually live on North Warren Avenue. He was taken to North Warren.

Saturday

• Police responded to the 200 block of North Warren Avenue, where a family said they were moving out. Between trips, they said, a gun safe and guns came up missing. A 29-year-old woman allegedly stole them. The family showed up back at the house around 6 p.m. to find a gun safe door open and a shotgun still loaded. Police will seek charges.

• Officers responded to a custody exchange in the 1100 block of Catherine Street.

• Police responded to a fraudulent use of a credit card complaint in the 800 block of South State Street. An investigation led police interviewing a man who told them he bought a pizza from an unknown person on Twitter, who used a third person’s credit card fraudulently. The investigation continues.

• A disorderly conduct complaint on the 300 block of South Third Street ended when both parties sorted things out before police arrived.

• Police responded to a false identification complaint on the 100 block of South Michigan Avenue. Bouncers caught it at the back door and the suspect left before officers arrived. The incident is under investigation.

Sunday

• A found wallet was turned in by a cab driver. The owner was contacted and the item was returned.
