REED CITY — It will be tough for Reed City boys basketball team to replace the nine seniors on this year’s team, which was 13-9 overall and 9-5 in the league for third place.

The senior class included Preston Johnson, who turned in another impressive varsity season.

The Coyotes started out fast and ran into a slight midseason skid. A win over Big Rapids in the first round of the district was a major highlight along with a home season finale victory over Newaygo.

“I’ve been improving a lot throughout the season,” Johnson, a forward-center said. “I’m there to get rebounds, scores, putbacks and all of that. I’ve been working at finishing layups, that’s the biggest thing.”

A lot of Johnson’s points came from layups.

“We just have to play hard, play as a team and get to it,” he said.

Taylor Harrison

The Central State Activities Association Gold Division recently announced its all-league girls basketball team with junior Taylor Harrison leading the way with first-team honors.

The Coyotes struggled for wins this season with a young team. Harrison was injured during the preseason and missed a few games. She then took charge, especially midway during the season when senior standout Kamryn Myers sustained an ankle injury which kept her out most of the year.

“We’re slowly improving,” Harrison said. “We’re getting a lot better and playing well as a team. That makes me happy. My role is to attack. I wish I was a better shooter right now. I try to be a team player.”

Harrison indicated her best shot is inside.

“We struggled without Kamryn,” Harrison said.

The Coyotes will have Harrison and several players returning next year and hope to improve from the 1-13 league record.
