Petoskey finishes strong junior season for Warrior wrestlers

REMUS — It was another big season for Chippewa Hills’ wrestling team and 171-pound junior wrestler Gabe Petoskey was among the many reasons why.

Petoskey was 37-15 overall and third in the CSAA Conference Tournament, first in individual district, second in individual regional and also a state qualifier.

It was his first year of varsity wrestling.

“It’s gone pretty good,” he said. “I have a good drill partner this year and the team is looking really good.”

Petoskey was seeded third going into the district.

“I wasn’t very surprised because I knew I had the ability (to win it),” he said. “In my finals match, I had lost to the guy earlier in the season 4-2. I knew it would be good match either way. I had to keep my head on right and make good moves. Shots and headlocks scores for me.”

The Warriors won another CSAA, district and regional title and finished as a state semifinalist.

Petoskey expects to be a key wrestler again for the Warriors next year.
