Chippewa Hills hoops lands two players on all-CSAA Gold team

Mitch Kuzma

REMUS — Chippewa Hills basketball team will be returning several players to next years team but will have to go without two seniors who earned all-Central State Activities Association Gold Division honors this season.

Mitch Kuzma earned first team all-conference honors. He’s in his second year and is averaging 12 points and 10 rebounds a game.

“He had a high of 29 versus Grant,” Warrior coach Lenny Starck said. “He’s a good inside/outside player.”

Jack Frebes was honorable mention all-conference. He averaged 10 points, nine rebounds and had a high of 30 vs. Tri County.

Starck took over as coach again this season and the team was 5-15 overall and 2-14 in the CSAA.

“I was happy with the growth of my team over the course of the season,” Starck said. “I believe that we exceeded expectations. We were still in it in the fourth quarter of 85 percent of our games. Next step is learning how to win.”

Injuries took their toll on the Warriors.

Next year, “we return seven of our top 10 playing rotation with five sophomores and two freshmen,” Starck said. “We will still be young but have a year of varsity experience under our belt,” Starck said.
