Ryan Haner eyes banner season for Crossroads

Ryan Haner throws a pitch in practice.

BIG RAPIDS —Crossroads Charter Academy’s baseball team will be looking to be more competitive this season and will need pitchers like Ryan Haner to provide key contributions on the mound.

Haner is one of two seniors for Crossroads and also played last season.

“I was pretty good last year,” he said. “We had a lot of new people come out. Most of them are out this year.”

Haner was also on the mound last season.

“As a pitcher, it went pretty well,” he said. “My strength is definitely accuracy.”

Haner said his best pitch is a fastball but we wants to work on more speed.

If he’s not pitching, Haner will be at second base. Fielding is a strength, he said.

Haner was happy with his hitting last season but is looking to improve.

“You have to wait for the right pitch,” he said.

Crossroads, with new coach Jason Kostecki, put in two weeks of practice prior to this week’s term break. The season starts at home on Tuesday against Pine River.

“We need to be more disciplined and work on chemistry more,” Haner said. Crossroads plays at Vestaburg on April 6.
