REED CITY — Brooke Voelker is a senior member of the Reed City soccer team eager to have her best season for the Coyotes.

The soccer team has had two weeks of practices and is now in the middle of spring break. Formal practices start again next week. The first game is home on April 3 against Shelby. The first Central State Activities Association Gold home match is April 10 against Kent City.

Voelker expects to be a key contributor all season for the Coyotes.

She’s played soccer since she was six and is in her fourth year of varsity soccer.

The Coyotes were 9-7 last year.

“It went really well,” Voelker said. “We saw a huge improvement with a new coach and the program took on a new direction. The program will keep building.

This year, she’ll play center midfield.

“Last year, I bounced around in all different positions,” Voelker said. “Hopefully, I’ll be a lead communicator and hopefully bring this team together. I’ll be mostly passing in the middle.”

Voelker considers herself to be a good passer and a player who sees the field well.

“Last year, we lost a good group of seniors,” Voelker said. “They were a key, but this year I think we’ll be all right.”

The Coyotes are eager to get outside.

“Once we get outside, it’s about passing the ball harder,” Voelker said.

Voelker also played varsity basketball for Reed City during the winter.
