Chippewa Hills takes third

REMUS — Chippewa Hills was third, Morley Stanwood fifth and Pine River eighth in the boys track and field division of the Mohawk Relays on Saturday.

Clare, with 98 points, topped the 10-team field. Chippewa Hills had 66 points, Morley Stanwood 54 and Pine River 43. It was an all-relay meet. Field events combined the efforts of two athletes.

Chippewa Hills got seconds in the pole vault (20-6), the discus with Colby Roosa and Logan Redlawski (211-2). Roosa and Redlawski were also third in the shot put (72-4). The Warriors were also second in the shuttle hurdles (1:17.57). They were fourth in the 3,200-meter combine in with Aidan Hollandsworth and Nick Sherman (22:48.39).

Morley Stanwood won the sprint medley (1:41.77) and the Mohawk Medley (2:40.49) and was fourth in the 800 relay (1:46.97) and 1,600 relay (3:51).

Morley Stanwood got fourth places from the combination of Braden Peacock and Kevin Philips in the shot put (71-9) and discus (203-10 ½). The Mohawks were third in the shuttle hurdles (1:18.98).

“Our sprinters really did a great job today,” Morley Stanwood boys coach Michele Young said. “The throwers did a great job. There were nice surprises. I was pretty happy. Braden Peacock is coming along.”

“It was a fun meet,” Mohawk junior Aiden McLaughlin said. “We don’t get to do relays like this too much. It was fun to do this. The weather was perfect, besides the wind.”

Pine River was fifth in the pole vault (17-6).

“We’re looking pretty good,” senior Elijah Lewis. “We have a lot of freshmen and a lot of new kids. They’re fitting in pretty great.”
