REMUS — Raina Abbott has found her scoring touch for Chippewa Hills girls soccer team so far this season and the Warriors have been the beneficiaries.

Abbott, assisted twice by Emily Gandy, scored both goals for the Warriors (2-2) in a 2-1 Central State Activities Association victory over Lakeview (1-3) on Wednesday.

Courtney Grant had Lakeview’s only score, which was sandwiched between Abbott’s two tallies.

“I got a perfect pass for the goals,” Abbott said.

Abbott has had six goals so far.

“The midfielders are strong and they know exactly where to put the ball,” Abbott said. “They were about from 18 feet away. It’s all about taking the shot where the goalie’s not.”

It’s the second varsity season for Abbott, a sophomore.

“We’re definitely doing better this year,” Abbott said. “We’re getting strong every year.”

She said she’s gotten better, “but it’s been a matter of the team getting strong as one,” Abbott said. “The whole team together plays a season in the fall.

“We’ve won both of our conference games so far. We have the potential to win a lot of games. The team knows where to put the ball at the right time. We can work better on communication and control of the ball.”

“It was a good game and a hard fought battle,” Chippewa Hills coach Brad Gandy said. “Lakeview is a tough team to play. The girls could sharpen up a few more things. But overall, I’m happy.”

Isabel Bitler was the winning goalkeeper.

Both teams battled windy conditions. The start of the game was delayed briefly after the sound of thunder.

The Warriors play Friday at Alma.
