EVART — Marion dominated the hitting on Friday in 16-4 and 16-6 wins over the Evart Wildcats.

But Evart’s Livia Hopkins had a chance to get into her own hitting act with a home run in the second game.

McKenzie Kimble and Hopkins both had two singles in the first game while Deanna Conklin added a single. Carlie Gostlin took the pitching loss in both games.

In the second game, Kimball had a double and single, Kylee Dorn added a triple, Deana Conklin had a single and Hopkins and Ryann Baumgardner both singled.

“We need to keep doing the little things,” Evart coach Amanda Brown said. “We need to keep hitting the ball and play defense. We need to play solid ball on both sides. Once we figure that out we’ll be fine.”

Hopkins’ home run came the top of the fifth. It was her first of the season and the second in her career.

“Oh my gosh,” she smiled. “It doesn’t even feel like it’s going to go over. It was one smooth hit.”

Evart is 1-9 and plays Tuesday at Pine River.

“We need to work on some stuff like communicating and working together,” Baumgardner said.
