Big Rapids boys track places fourth in regional meet

REMUS — Big Rapids boys team won a dramatic 1,600-relay to end the Division 2 track and field regional meet at Chippewa Hills on Friday.

He Cardinals finished fourth with 70 points behind Benzie Central (85.25). Petoskey (85) and Freeland (77).

Chippewa Hills was 14th with 55 points in the 15-team field.

Logan Williams had another big day, taking first in the 800-meter run (1:58.96) and Kaden Torres was fourth (2:05.26).

Williams anchored the team of Sam Alley, Tanner Hartline and Kaden Torres, which was first in 3:30.79 to win the 4×400. He also anchored the first-place team of Casey Bouman, Hardesty, and Torres in the 4×800 (8:16.23).

Dan Hardesty was third in the 1,600-meter run (4:40.95) and second in the 3,200-meter run (9:59.92).

The Cardinals were fourth in the 4×100-meter relay (45.39) with Kadin Jackson, Logan Youngs, Aaron Blackwell and Jacob Roach and fourth in the 4×200-meter relay (1:35.11) with Jackson, Youngs, Blackwell and Roach (1:35.11). Tom Lobert was fourth in the shot put (45-2 ¾). DJ Greenbay was third in the discus (138-6).

The top two finishers in each event plus others who hit a qualifying mark advance to the state meet on June 1.

“We had a lot of PRs tonight,” Big Rapids coach Mike Selzer said. “DJ Greenbay PRed by 19 feet in the discus.

For the Warriors, Max Bryant was seventh in the 400-meter dash (53.75). Alex Lawens was sixth in the pole vault (11-4).
