MORLEY — Make it three for the Morley Stanwood baseball team.

The Mohawks defeated Kent City 13-4 and 9-7 Monday to clinch a share of the CSAA Silver title, their third straight. The Mohawks can clinch an outright title when they face Lakeview on Wednesday.

“We’d like to win it outright,” head coach Bob Raven said. “That’s the plan but it feels good to at least have a share going into that game. It takes all the pressure off us which is a good feeling.”

Tied 4-4 entering the sixth inning of game one, the Mohawks went on a 9-0 run to earn in the inning to earn the win.

Ryland Nelson earned the win on the mound with five strikeouts, one hit,  and one run in four innings. Aaron Moore and Xavier Raven each tallied three hits and an RBI and Trevor Underhill had two hits and two RBI, while Landon Elenbaas added two hits and three RBIs.

In game two, the Mohawks got off to a 9-0 start but gave up seven straight runs to make it a close game.

James Dodge picked up the win with three strikeouts and two hits in three innings and Ryland Nelson came in to pitch the final three innings of the game.

Kyle Ososki had two hits and Nelson added two hits and two RBIs and Underhill had two hits and two RBIs.

“We didn’t play bad today but we weren’t sharp defensively, which you’ll have to be to win a district game,” Raven said. “We’ll have to shore up our defense. Pitching was good for the most part; walks will kill you. We did a little better throwing strikes today but we can be better at that.”

With a share of the title secured, the Mohawks (22-11, 16-2) will try to get their pitching situation squared away in preparation for postseason play.

“It’s been pretty taxing,” Raven said. “Our pitching is pretty much used up. We’ll have three pitchers that won’t be eligible due to pitch counts for Lakeview. Hopefully, we can go over there and play loose.”
