POLICE BLOTTER: Teenager steals beef jerky; ex takes couple’s cellphone

BIG RAPIDS — Big Rapids Department of Public Safety officers responded to the following calls Monday and Tuesday. All calls might not be reported.

Monday

• A retail fraud was reported at 9:24 a.m. on the 100 block of South Michigan Avenue. The fraud actually occurred on May 17. The business owners believe they know who the suspect is.

• There were four separate reports of larcenies from vehicles between the 500 block and 800 block of Ives Avenue. Items reported stolen were a purse and loose change.

• Officers were dispatched at 10:26 a.m. to the 800 block of Clark Street after a property owner found some clothes behind the store.

• Police were sent to a civil complaint at 11:02 a.m. on the 800 block of Lilac Avenue.

• A retail fraud was reported at 3:18 p.m. on the 800 block of South State Street. Police issued a 17-year-old girl an appearance ticket for stealing beef jerky.

• Officers were dispatched to a larceny from a vehicle complaint on the 800 block of Winter Avenue. Items were located in a yard across the street. The items will be returned to the owner.

• At 9:17 p.m., police responded to a civil complaint on the 500 block of South State. The caller was upset that her ex took a cellphone they both shared when he recently moved out.

Tuesday

• A traffic stop at 2:52 a.m. at State and Maple streets led to a 23-year-old man being arrested for operating while intoxicated.

• Officers responded to a suicidal man at 3:10 a.m. on the 200 block of South Michigan. He was transported to Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital’s emergency by for an evaluation. Ferris State University’s Department of Public Safety assisted due to the amount of the call load at the time.
