POLICE BLOTTER: Mother allegedly leaves child alone in Hemlock Park to get drunk

BIG RAPIDS — Big Rapids Department of Public Safety officers responded to the following calls Tuesday. All calls might not be reported.

• A blue Huffy MTB bike was found at 11:44 a.m. on the 600 block of Willow Avenue.

• Police received a walk-in complaint at 12:28 p.m. from a woman whose dog was attacked while they were at the dog park.

• Officers investigated a threats complaint at 2:28 p.m. on the 800 block of Water Tower Road.

• Police were dispatched to a civil complaint at 4:22 p.m. on the 800 block of Clark Street.

• At 7:54 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 800 block of South State Street for a man hanging out in the lobby. At the request of management, the 54-year-old man was removed from the property.

• Police were dispatched at 7:46 p.m. to Hemlock Park for a young child who said he could not find his mother. Shortly after arrival, the mother was located and found to be intoxicated. The father was contacted and responded to pick both of them up. Upon reviewing camera footage, police discovered the mother had left the child alone in the Playscape for approximately 45 minutes while she returned to her vehicle. A Child Protective Services referral was completed and the report will be forwarded to the Mecosta County Prosecutor’s Office for charges.
