Karly Kearns a key member of Coyotes’ pack

REED CITY — The Reed City girls soccer program has turned itself around in recent years and Karly Kearns is a key reason why.

Kearns tallied three goals in Reed City’s 4-2 win over Lakeview on Monday and emerged as one of the Coyotes’ top goal scorers this season.  She grew up playing in the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) as well as for area travel teams.

“My footwork has improved a lot,” Kearns said. “I’ve really learned to calm down and take my time with that aspect of my game.”

“She’s gotten better with her shot,” head coach Andrea Pollaski said. “Her shot has gotten better and her footwork has gotten better. I think her confidence is higher so she takes more players on.”

The Coyotes finished the regular season with a 13-2-3 record. Reed City had a bye in the first round of districts and will face Big Rapids and Shelby district opener Tuesday in the semifinals.

Kearns and her teammates hope to make more memories together this season.

“We’re losing a lot of our really good seniors,” she said. “The rest of the up and coming girls are going to have to put in a lot of work as well as myself and the rest of next year’s seniors. But before that we’re gonna do our best next week.”
