BIG RAPIDS — It’s summertime with Quad City Storm baseball and softball travel teams looking to take advantage with a full slate of summer games.

David Yonker is directing the Quad City program again this summer. Teams are basically focused from the Big Rapids area, although many athletes from other school districts are also participating.

The age for boys is 12U, 14U, 15U, 16U and 18U. Softball divisions are 14U and 18U.

“My 18U team just started practicing (Tuesday) because we couldn’t start until high school baseball is done,” Yonker said. “The 12U team and 14U team have both played already. Everyone is up and running and going full throttle.”

The Storm will be hosting a baseball tournament July 12-14.

“We currently have 27 teams signed up,” Yonker said. “I’m hoping we’ll have at least 36.”

It’s the fifth year of the organization and the third year it’s hosting a tournament.

All other games are at different locations including at Art Van Sports Complex in Rockford.

Yonker is coaching the 18U baseball team.

Coaches are Dan Sleeper for 12U baseball, JT Scarpelli for 14U boys, John Meeuwes for 15U baseball, Josh Eling for 14U girls, Jamey Nelson for 16U baseball, and Sheri Strpko for 18U girls.
