Former Big Rapids quarterback Jayden Mason set for next level

BIG RAPIDS — Jayden Mason was a three-sport athlete in his four years at Big Rapids High School and will now be taking his football talents to Olivet College.

Mason was among the BRHS athletes who announced his collegiate intentions last month. He was quarterback at Big Rapids.

“Jayden Mason excelled on the field the past two seasons as he achieved 2,600 total yards and 20 touchdowns,” Big Rapids football coach Mike Selzer said.

“I loved the atmosphere of the coaches and players there,” Mason said of Olivet. “It looked like a place I could call home.”

Mason indicated Olivet coaches are looking at him as quarterback. He said his style fits Olivet’s offensively with emphasis on spreadouts. He’s been a passing and running type of quarterback.

Olivet football was Mason’s choice all the way.

“Their program is on the rise,” he said. “I’ll have to work a lot harder and get in the weight room.”

Mason also played basketball and baseball at Big Rapids.

The Big Rapids football program “prepared me very well on what I have to do at the next level in order to succeed,” he said.
