Mohawks’ Edgerly catcher reflects on freshman season

MORLEY — Brooke Edgerly wasted little time in establishing her credentials as a solid high school softball catcher.

Edgerly, a freshman, and sophomore teammate Brooke Brauher were both named this month to the CSAA Silver Division all-league team.

Edgerly had a sparkling batting average of .481 and 11 stolen bases.

“I worked (on her hitting) on it with my dad,” Edgerly said. “I had some triples at Evart.”

She’s also been a catcher four years.

“It was my dad’s idea,” Edgerly said of the decision to be a catcher. “I like how I can see the field and what’s going on.”

She indicated her throwing arm is a strong weapon.

Edgerly will be playing on a summer travel team. the West Michigan Sabercats.

She’s looking forward to her sophomore softball season with Morley Stanwood.

“Next year, we’ll come back stronger,” she said. “We have a good group of athletes. Next year, I think will definitely be better.”

Brauher, a first basemen, batted .341 and had 25 RBIs.

Madison Garbow was on the honorable mention list for the Mohawks, who tied for fourth in the six-team conference.

Morley Stanwood’s baseball team won its third straight CSAA Silver crown and has several players on the all-league team.

Landon Elenbaas, Drew Jensen, Trevor Underhill and Kyle Ososki was on the first team, and Ryland Nelson made the honorable mention list.

Ososki batted .314 with an on-base percentage of .482. Jensen was at .343 and .407. Elenbaas was at .364 and .492.Underhill was at .300 and .394. Nelson was at 345 and .435.
