Evart football opens with White Cloud on Friday

EVART – Evart has eight returning seniors on the 2016 football team who should all play a pivotal role for the Wildcats.

Pat Craven is in his 13th season as coach and is looking for his team to improve from a 4-5 mark last year.

Seniors include Cody Pritchard and Layne Nadig at running back and defensive back and, Danny Griffin at running back and defensive safety, Andrew Booher at running back and defensive back, Jacob Kleeves at tight end and defensive line, Joe Eastman at running back and linebacker and Anson Pullion at offensive and defensive line.

“Our team goals include daily improvement and working to make our community a top-notch place to live and grow a family,” Craven said. “We want the world to know how great Evart can be and what our community potential really is.

“We must be men of high character and strive to compete in the classroom and on the field.”

Several juniors could play a key role including Jericho VanScoyoc at running back and defensive back, and Josh Dorn and Cameron Martin at offensive and defensive line.

The Wildcats scrimmaged at St Louis on Thursday.

“We put kids in a variety of positions and gave them opportunities to show us what they’re made of,” Craven said.

Evart opens at home Friday against White Cloud.

“They’re a big physical football team,” Craven said. “They’ll try smash-mouth football. We have to match their physicality and use our
speed and athleticism to our advantage.”
