DEQ extends public comment, plans public hearing for Nestle request

LANSING —  The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality recently announced it is extending the public comment period until Dec. 3 regarding Nestlé Waters North America’s request to increase its water withdrawal at a production well near Evart.

Nestlé Waters North American has requested approval from the state to increase its withdrawal from 150 gallons per minute to 400 GPM at the White Pine Springs production well in Osceola County under Section 17 of the Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act, 1976 PA 399.

Written comments can be emailed to deq-eh@michigan.gov.

Additionally, the DEQ is planning a public hearing on the proposed water withdrawal increase, though no date or location has been set.
