Evart cheer girls ready to start season

EVART — Evart competitive cheer coach Marty Pattee and her Wildcats start their season on Dec. 8 at Chippewa Hills.

“We struggled last year with Round 2 but we continued to improve throughout the season,” Pattee said. “The highlight last year was our high score at the Marion Invitational. Last year’s seniors will be greatly missed for the vocals and facial expressions on the floor. They were dedicated to the program.

“This year, we are really excited to have several returning athletes. Of our four seniors, Mariah Fisher, who is a base and tumbler, Mackenzie Daniels, who is a base and Round 1 leader, Carlie Gostlin and Hannah Moore, backspotters, have all cheered before and will give leadership on the floor.”

Pattee said her juniors, Kaitlyn Roberts (backspot), Leigha Walters (base and tumbler), and Zandrea Geranen (flyer and tumbler) “will provide a lot of strength on the floor. Sophomore Kirissa Deacons will be a tumbler as well as a base. Freshman newcomers Mari Flachs (flyer and tumbler) and Abbi Boyd (base and tumbler) will be a great addition as well.”

Pattee is high on her team’s prospects.

“If this team continues to work hard, they should be a top contender at most competitions,” Pattee said. “They are all working hard to reach our team goals. They have improved so much…they will surprise teams this year. I am looking forward to having more tumbling skills, better precision, stronger jumps and solid stunting. We should also have strong vocals this year. We will be working on floor presence, confidence and hitting each little detail.

“Our conference always has a strong number of teams. There have been a few (Houghton Lake and Roscommon) added to our conference this year so it could be very interesting to see how it plays out. Evart is going to bring a new, improved team to the floor this year. We are hoping that it will be a very productive year. I am very excited to see what they can do.”
