REED CITY — Reed City’s boys basketball team will have a showdown at Fremont on Friday for first place in the Central State Activities Association Gold Division on Friday.

The Coyotes won 61-49 against Fremont at home in December with an excellent display of 3-point shooting. “They’ll be fired up for us to come into town,” Reed City coach JJ Eads said. “We hope to play with a little more consistency this week.

On Friday at Newaygo, Reed City won 73-62.

The Coyotes led 45-35 at the half and went on to win by 11 points.

Preston Johnson led the team with 18 points while Cody Kailing and Payton Hansen tallied 16 and 11 points, respectively. The Coyotes led by as many as 17 in the second quarter.

Reed City (8-2, 5-1) was at Central Montcalm on Tuesday.

“Central Montcalm got us at their place last year,” Eads said. “They’re tough inside and outside. That’s a big challenge for us. We don’t want to overlook them.”
