Hooker having strong season

LEROY — Tom Hooker has been among the top performers for Pine River wrestling this season and is hoping to help the Bucks be even more competitive late in the year.

He’s been at 152 and was 16-6 after his first 22 matches in his junior season.

“Last year, I should have been a district champ and didn’t wrestle in the postseason,” he said. “I’m pretty happy with the year so far.”

This season, Hooker hopes to be a state qualifier.

“I have to work hard and get into the (wrestling room),” he said. Top work has been his strength.

“But I have to get better on my feet,” he said.

The Bucks have been state semifinalists in recent seasons but have a younger team this year.

“We’ll push through it and get it done,” Hooker said.

Pine River is set to wrestle at home on Wednesday and at the Reed City Invitational on Saturday.
